Columbia College has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 150 years. As a private, nonprofit, coeducational liberal arts and sciences institution, the college takes pride in its small classes, experienced faculty and quality educational programs.
Originally founded as Christian Female College in 1851, the college was the first women's college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it transformed itself from a two-year women's college to a four-year coeducational college. The college added an Evening Campus for working adults in 1975 and an Online Campus in 2000. Today, the college serves 25,000 students each year through 35 Nationwide Campuses, including one in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Columbia College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The college is a nonsectarian school welcoming students of any faith. It has retained a covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since inception.
The college offers associate, bachelor's and master's degrees through traditional 16-week semesters or convenient 8-week sessions. The Online Campus offers more than 500 classes and 19 online degrees, including master's degrees in business administration, criminal justice and education.
