Competition Overview

Sponsored by the Missouri Symphony Society, the Plowman Chamber Music Competition (PCMC) celebrated its inaugural year in 2006. Proposed to be held in late March/early April, the Competition provides an opportunity for non-professional musicians to perform in front of an outstanding panel of nationally chosen judges for the cash awards that include a grand prize of $5,000.

Located in the heartland of the United States in Columbia, Missouri, PCMC will invite approximately 25 five ensembles to take part in the semi-final competition on Friday and Saturday, March 28 & 29, followed by formal Final Concert on March 30, 2008. While Missouri Theatre undergoes renovation this year, all events are held this year at the First Baptist Church in downtown Columbia and are open to the public.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Plowman Chamber Music Competition (PCMC) is to assist emerging chamber ensembles in their artistic development, to encourage them to pursue careers in chamber music, and to provide a forum for their talents. PCMC intends to raise Columbia's cultural status nationally through promotion of quality music. PCMC will support ensembles in achieving the highest level of accomplishment and foster a collegial environment among the participating musicians.
